    More with the 5.5cm f3.5 preset micro-Nikkor.

Close up of the antenna of the moth, probably somewhere close to 1:1 magnification.

    Favorite MF Lens

BTW a murdered out B4C would definitely be something nice to own. That would go nice with my black C4.

Murdered isn't quite the look I would be after to be honest, but a nice black B4C would be pretty close to my dream car.

Mine had an LO3 bottom end, with LB9 heads, custom cam, Hooker 2490's with offroad pipe in which I welded an AIR cat. Bigger fuel pump from the 350 TPI and ECM chip from someone on thirdgen. Had the IROC front and rear stabilizers, MOOG springs and yellow KONI shocks. EBC brakes and discs and a 4th gen interior.

My next thirdgen will be quite similar, but with a Goodmark 2" hood and I might weld up the headers myself this time around. It was a hell of a job to clean the Hookers and ceramic coat them.

    Pre-AI Micro-Nikkors

Need to try this lens out more. The 5.5cm f3.5 preset macro is a very interesting lens! Only a couple thousand were made between 1961 and early 1963, for some reason Nikon got away from it in 1963 and started the 55mm pre-Ai micro-Nikkor line. The earlier lens went 1:1 in magnification, and its preset rings in the front mean it will go just fine on a D800 or similar F-mount DSLR, no modifications needed.

The focus ring has a long, long throw (680deg!!). The fully extended lens looks quite neat, very sleek and cool depth of field markings. As you start to turn the ring to focus further away, the lens starts turning into this short stubby thing. Will post pics in a week or two of the lens fully extended as well as set at minimum focus distance. Only caveat is that the rear lip of the barrel extends well over the mount as you approach infinity, so on the modern DSLRs one can't shoot at infinity with this lens without chopping off the rear edge of the barrel lip.

But then who would want to disfigure a 55 year old rare macro lens just to shoot it at infinity anyway?

Handheld sample with this unique lens.

Still on my plans to compare this lens to the 55 3.5 pre-AI compensating and the 55 3.5 K micro-NIkkors. Some day..
