Its a collapsible lens for the Leitz thread mount cameras. This particular sample was made likely in 1940 in the Wetzlar factory in Germany - possibly around the time the Battle of Britain was raging in the skies over Britain.

Both pictures are with the lens mounted on a FED-5 LTM camera, with Ilford FP4 ISO 125 film.

Updating the thread for this lens. I also need to do a picture of this lens, side by side with the 180 ED AIS.

At last week's auto show in Washington DC. The 180 2.8 P Auto lens wide open on Nikon Df.

    28 F4 PC-Nikkor
A bit more hefty than the somewhat more modern 28 f3.5 PC-Nikkor, Different optical formula too. I have the non-AI version, there is an AI version of the f/4 too, but haven't come across it. I have the non-AI version, there is an AI version of the f/4 too, but haven't come across it. Similar performance to the 28 3.5 PC, however in some photos I took yesterday I did notice a bit of barrel distortion. Will have to look at older samples taken with this lens and do a bit more with it to analyze.

The 28 f4 versions were produced 1975-80, and then the lens was replaced by the 3.5 PC-Nikkor, which was produced as recently as 2005.

Went back and found an older pic with the lens taken with a Nikon F2S. Don't see the distortion in there.

Well this superb but unheralded lens deserves yet another sample. This time taking in a soccer game, with the Df.

Thanks Mark for reviving this len's discussion with the samples. This lens deserves a lot more.

Not sure if its the recent hiccup on Fred Miranda, but the link I posted to Georg's posting seems to point elsewhere now.

  • Another Bronica-mount Nikkor. The 200mm NK f4 P lens being tried out on the Nikon Df using the Fotodiox adapter (all pictures at f/4 since the adapter doesn't seem to offer a way to stop down the lens.

With a closeup filter it came with:

  • The Bessa R2S is a very interesting metered Bessa R with the Nikon S-mount. Nice ergonomically and easy to use, although a bit fragile. May not quite last the 60+ years that the Nikon rangefinders have, but still fun to put to work for now.

The lens copy is likely older than the oldest Nikon F lenses. This is probably 1958 production, with tick marked aperture stops. Not sure if the optics are similar to the F-mount 13.5cm f3.5 Q.

  • And some samples with the lens. All wide open since there's no way with the adapter to stop down the aperture.
