  • And your friend Glen from the MFNG thread is very grateful to you for doing these tests, which helped me to decide to buy a 20mm f/2.8 Ai-s now, and maybe a 20 f/3.5 UD in the future. Thanks again Jose!

The one I bought has a serial number of 2576xx. Based on the serial number range listed at Photosynthesis, where it appears that an average of at least 3300 of these lenses were made annually between 1984 and 2005, it seems that the sample I bought was likely made at some time around 2001 or later. So it is probably somewhat over halfway between the two that you have used, and thus could be either good, or not. I'll let you know how it turns out when I have had a chance to use the lens. More

    Hi Mark;

    This plan has the clear benefit of minimizing the expense of shipping the lens from place to place, as well as the distances for it to travel. My only concern would be that the lens may end up in my hands at the very time that we Canadians are experiencing the coldest days of winter (end of December through February). This tends to be hibernation time for all but the most intrepid---and fully bundled-up---outdoors(wo)men. If possible, I would be happy to pay any extra shipping costs that would enable me not to venture out into the Great Chill with only convertibly fingerless photo-gloves to protect me from frostbite.

    Thanks again for all the work you are doing to make this happen.

    Glen

    Ok, how about the other way, Canada, Down Under, Europe, California, Heart of America, and back to the East Coast?

    Sounds like an ingenious plan to me! The only caveat is that I am coming to the end of a course that will become increasingly demanding over the coming two weeks, so I may not get around to using the lens until mid-November. However, I will do everything in my power to expedite the lens' progress around the Western Hemisphere.

    Thanks again Mark.

I would definitely be interested in participating in Project Nikko. However, with winter coming and with my aversion to spending much time outdoors in cold Canadian weather, I am concerned that I will not be able to make good use of George's 28 F/3.5 PC. What do you think I should do? Do you suppose the lens will still be making the rounds in April or May? More

    George, you are a very generous fellow! Mark, you may consider my name to be officially in the hat. I am located just outside of Toronto, Canada, but will not be able to make proper use of the lens until late April or early May.

    Its not my lens, but if we get 10 people and it averages 2 weeks between participants we are talking 20 weeks right there. It figures if we can get 15 people it should work out. I think we are at 10 right now.

    That sounds very promising, Mark....

    That sounds very promising, Mark. With George being so flexible, I too will be as flexible as I can be. Many thanks to both of you.

    I'll try and post a couple. The session is a surprise b-day gift for my neighbors hubby so I doubt that he would even know they are online since he's not much of a computer person :)

    Never tired to say: this is a N=1 vs. N=1 vs. N=1 comparison, so copy variation can play a role here.
